Frozen or Garnished Bank Account

If your bank account has been frozen by Texas Receivership, please review and follow the information below.

Why is my bank account frozen?

A judge ruled that you owe money to a creditor, resulting in a signed judgment against you. Judgments in Texas are valid for 10 years and can be renewed to last longer. After the judgment was taken, the judge appointed Texas Receivership to collect the owed funds to satisfy the judgment.

What is the process now?

After we submit the court order to your bank, they freeze the funds in your account. They may not be allowed to pay any checks or drafts out of your account during this time. Your bank will send us an accounting of the funds at the time of garnishment. This typically takes 2-3 weeks depending on your bank. Please note your bank may charge you an administrative fee for handling the garnishment.

After we receive the accounting

Upon receiving the accounting and the funds from your bank, we will credit it toward the total owed to the judgment creditor (plus our fees and incurred costs).

  • ✓If satisfied: We will inform the court and the judgment creditor, who will usually issue the release of judgment within 30 days.
  • !If incomplete: We will continue to seek repayment through any legal methods available to us.
